Chucalissa Volunteer Day
Chucalissa State Park is a local Native American archeological site about 15 minutes south of Memphis, managed by the University of Memphis ( https://www.memphis.edu/chucalissa/ ). The address is: 1987 Indian Village Drive Memphis, TN 38109. A couple of times a year they offer volunteer days where groups/individuals can come in and help catalog artifacts, assist with the herb garden, and a variety of other activities.
These pictures are from the October 9th (the Saturday before FOS) Volunteer Day from and it was a great chance for us to come together as a community to learn more about those who were on this land before us, and help out at a wonderful local resource.
Entry is free, and children are welcome, as they offer activities to entertain them as well.
Also, we brought some picnic supplies, so we could have a nice little feast there afterwards - you know we've GOTTA eat when we come together!
We had a great time, and I hope to see more people there next time. The remaining Volunteer Days in 2010 are November 13th, and December 4th.
